Buying bus tickets online is a fast and convenient process when you know the key security rules and payment system technical requirements in advance. Most failures when paying with Visa and Mastercard are not caused by system errors, but rather by restrictions imposed by the card issuing bank, security gateway settings, or errors when filling out the order form.
We have prepared a guide to help you complete your transaction securely and receive your e-ticket by email.
The booking timer is 30 minutes. Selected bus seats are reserved for the buyer for exactly this duration. If payment is not completed within half an hour, the order is canceled and the seats are released back into general sale.
Mandatory return to our website. After confirming the transaction on the SEB bank payment gateway, be sure to wait for the automatic redirect back to the Baltic Shuttle system or click the corresponding return button. If you close the tab earlier, the bank may hold the funds, but the order will remain incomplete.
The order value limit is €500. This is the maximum amount permitted for a single shopping cart transaction. If the total cost of your trip exceeds this threshold, please make your reservations as separate orders.
Visa and Mastercard bank cards. Cards from any bank supporting international online payments and 3-D Secure confirmation are accepted.
Click to Pay technology. A fast way to pay with Visa and Mastercard cards without repeatedly entering full card details and often without extra verification codes.
Direct bank transfer (Bank Link). Payment directly from accounts at leading banks in Estonia and the Baltic States, including SEB, Swedbank, LHV, Luminor, Coop, and Citadele.
PayPal. A reliable alternative for direct payment from an electronic wallet.
To safeguard funds, the SEB bank payment gateway strictly adheres to the Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) standard. The issuing bank is required to request authentication based on at least two independent security elements:
Knowledge — an online shopping password or static PIN;
Possession — the bank's mobile app, an SMS with a one-time password, a code calculator, or the Smart-ID app;
Inherence — biometric features of the cardholder (Face ID or fingerprint scanner).
An important distinction: a one-time 3-D Secure SMS or push code is generated dynamically solely for the current transaction. Do not confuse it with the three-digit CVV/CVC security code printed on the back of the physical card, which remains unchanged.
Banks typically allow between 2 and 5 minutes to enter a one-time SMS code or confirm the transaction in their mobile app. If the message is delayed, the session is timed out by the gateway.
How to resolve: prepare your phone in advance and check mobile network reception or the bank app's connectivity before proceeding to checkout.
The card works properly at retail store terminals, but online transactions are declined by the bank without a detailed explanation.
Solution: open your bank's app, navigate to your card security settings, enable permissions for online purchases, and verify your daily spending limit.
When paying with a card in a currency other than the euro, the issuing bank performs conversion at its internal exchange rate and may apply a cross-border fee of 1–3%.
Solution: make sure your account balance exceeds the ticket price by 3–5% to cover potential exchange rate differences.
Browser add-ons such as AdBlock, uBlock Origin, or Privacy Badger can block the bank payment gateway frame, preventing the confirmation window from loading.
Solution: temporarily pause ad blockers or complete your purchase in incognito mode.
Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data or enabling a VPN while entering payment details is flagged by the banking system as potential fraud.
Solution: place your order on a stable network and do not change network settings until the transaction is fully complete.
Funds are debited from the card, but the ticket is not delivered to the purchaser due to an incorrect email address.
Solution: double-check the spelling of your email address and phone number; enter the first and last name using only Latin letters exactly as shown in the passport.
If you made a typo, you can exchange tickets for free.
Clicking the "Pay" button multiple times or refreshing the page (F5 key) while the transaction is being processed can lead to a duplicate authorization hold on your funds.
Solution: click the payment button only once and wait for the system response to complete. Do not refresh an unresponsive page.
Other common reasons why payments fail due to cardholder-related issues:
To maximize the likelihood of a successful transaction, we recommend keeping in mind the thresholds for fraud risk assessment parameters that can trigger a payment block, as each failed payment attempt increases the fraud risk score.
If these permitted limits are collectively exceeded, the payment system may temporarily block payment attempts. Each failed attempt raises the risk of the bank declining subsequent attempts due to suspected fraud.
When booking from within the Russian Federation, issues loading banking pages may occur due to internet traffic filtering and blocks on external hostings. If the payment gateway fails to open under your standard connection, use a stable VPN service.
We also advise against making payments between 02:00 and 04:00 European time. Many bank processing systems carry out scheduled maintenance during this window, increasing the chance of an authorization failure.
Stop repeated attempts. Several consecutive declines increase the fraud score in the SEB security system and result in a temporary card block.
Check your account statement. Verify whether funds have been held in pending status (HOLD) by the bank, and check your remaining online spending limit.
Check your spam folder. The confirmation email containing the receipt and ticket might have been routed there by your email provider's automated filters.
Switch your browser or payment method. Open the website in a different browser, or use Click to Pay, direct bank link, or PayPal.
Contact customer support. If funds have been debited but booking confirmation is not received within 10–15 minutes, send Baltic Shuttle support the order number, transaction time, account statement screenshot, amount, and the last 4 digits of the card for manual ticket issuance or a refund. Do not purchase a replacement ticket until an operator responds.
